Architecture Of Ancient Egypt

The Egyptians built different kinds of buildings at different times. In the early part of the Old Kingdom, the Egyptians built mainly mastabas, a kind of tomb with a flat roof like a house. Then throughout most of the Old Kingdom, the Egyptians built the pyramid tombs which are now so famous. Then in the New Kingdom there was a lot of temples for the gods especially and palaces for the Pharaohs. And most notably the Egyptians are most famous for building the pyramids.

The Three Kingdoms Of Egypts: Old, Middle and New

The history of Egypt is divided into three parts the Old Kingdom, Middle Kingdom and New Kingdom. Old Kingdom 2650 BC – 2134 BC: Pharaohs organized a strong central state and they were absolute rulers, and even considered gods. Egyptians built pyramids at Giza by then and cost of pyramids contributed to the collapse of the Old Kingdom. Middle Kingdom 2125 BC – 1550 BC: Large drainage project created arable farmland and traders had contacts with Middle East and Crete. Corruption and rebellions were common which was followed by Hyksos invading and occupying the delta region. New Kingdom 1550 BC – 1295 BC: Powerful pharaohs created a large empire that reached the Euphrates River. Hatshepsut encouraged trade and Ramses II expanded Egyptian rule to Syria.

Ancient Egypt: An Overview

Egypt is one of the most fertile areas of Africa, and one of the most fertile of the countries in the world. Because of that, people came to live in Egypt earlier than in most places, probably around 40,000 years ago. At first there were not very many people, but gradually Egypt became more crowded. For a while there seem to have been two kingdoms the upper and lower and people called the ruler of the kingdom the Pharaoh.
